One of those weekend ‚ ¦.. (03.05.07)

‚ ¦..You know when you have one of those weekends that you just want to forget about, this weekend I had one. I seemed to go from bad to worse as the weekend progressed! I was at Silverstone at the weekend and it was just one of those weekends that make the good ones look really good and even the bad ones look good! Friday wasn t a great day bar the weather been freezing compared to what we were used to at Brands and Thruxton.

The rest of the weekend, well that was pretty much a blur after I got knocked out on Saturday by a stray solid steel awning pole. I ve broken a few bones in my time but the only thing I can really remember about Saturday was the extreme pain in my head, never felt pain like that before! I was carted off to the medical centre, where I thought I was for half an hour but it turned out I was there two and a half hours. I had a bump on my head the size of an egg and I guess the rest the say is history.

I spent the rest of the weekend walking around in a little world of my own not really knowing where I was or what I was doing. It s a very strange feeling, I ve never been knocked out before but been told it s normal ‚ more fool these racers I say that seem to get knocked out all the time.

Starring blankly at the TV screens in the press office I just had a horrible feeling that the weekend was going to continue on a downhill spiral. I was right! Westy broke Centurion s winning record, I guess it had to happen sooner or later, and Mr Camier ended up sliding through the gravel on his backside! Gutted, he was in a solid third at the time ‚ that s that clich ƒ © that s racing!

The rest of the week has been a right off really, a trip to A & E on Monday for a cat scan was all good fun, my left pupil wasn t responding and my vision is pretty rubbish at the moment. They were fairly good down at the hospital (as far as A & E Departments go!) and he was ready to send me home until he looked in my left eye and it didn t work! Thankfully the scan was clear (yeah I ve had all the jokes, when they finally found my brain!) just severe bruising and concussion which they ve told me could last up to a month ‚ great!

I m heading to Oulton this weekend for a much quieter and less dramatic weekend hopefully, I just hope it doesn t get much worse than that. I ve got the rain coat packed, wet weather is forecast for Sunday and Monday, which could make things interesting!
