The newly formed team are pleased to announce that with the continued support of Triumph/MAP Group and its sponsors they will continue to compete to the end of the 2010 season with riders, AJ Venter in the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport 600 championship and Josh Caygill/Jimmy Hill in the Metzeler National Superstock 600 Championship.

 

The team have experienced a very difficult three weeks and were able to show their team commitment to move forward at Cadwell Park last weekend. Round 4 – Foxhill’s – 5^th & 6^th June

The fourth round of the Wulfsport British Masters Championship will be staged at the ultra fast Foxhill’s track on the 5^th and 6^th June. Round three at Whitby produced some impressive results by young Irishman Martin Barr on the PAR Homes Honda who dominated the proceedings throughout the day winning three of the four races, taking the overall win in the MX1 and MX2 classes. He will be back in force at Foxhill’s, hoping to repeat the same results and add to his points scores in the overall Championship standings.  

 

He will be joined in battle at Foxhill’s by his team-mates, Ray Rowson and Scott Elderfield. Elderfield will as always be on a mission to get some strong results and he will be ensuring that the crowd will be treated to some close racing. Elderfield currently stands in second place in the Pro MX1 Class and he is currently leading the Pro MX2 class so it is all to play for.

 

At the top of the Championship table in the MX1 class is another Irishman Gordon Crockard, who has had some spectacular results during the 2010 season after missing most of 2009 after a hideous crash at Hawkstone Park at the start of the season. Crockard will be working hard to ensure that he puts his Paul Bird Kawasaki on the podium and further extend his lead in the series.

 

Other top riders expecting to ride at Foxhill’s on the 5^th and 6^th of June include James Noble, Kristian Whatley, Matt Mophett, Lee Dunham, Ben LaMay, Neville Bradshaw, Jamie Lewis, Nathan Parker, Jamie Law, John May, Wayne Smith, Luke Mellows and many more high level riders.

 

Adult entry tickets on the gate is only £10, kids under 14 are free.

 

Not only will the Pro’s be out in force but the two days will be packed with all action packed racing, rough timetables are below for the Saturday and Sunday.

 

Qualifying will start at 8:30am on both days and will be followed by two days of action packed racing. This will include the MXY2, SW/BW 85’s, Open Michelin, Kawasaki Masters, Amateur MX1 and MX2 and the two main Pro MX1 and MX2 races.

Oxford TAG Triumph rider Jason O’Halloran secured a fantastic tenth place finish in the second round of the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport race at Thruxton Circuit today, 18^th April. O’Halloran, who was involved in a massive crash during first qualifying on Saturday morning, causing the session to be red flagged as his Triumph skipped the fence and Jason was thrown heavily into the Armco barrier and he battled through the pain to gain a great 10^th place. The crash destroyed Jason’s bike and therefore it had to be totally re-built from scratch, a lengthy process for the team and with only two hours to do it in before the second qualifying session.

 

Jason was taken to the medical centre and was checked over for any serious injuries and was declared fit to ride for the second qualifying session. The Oxford TAG team were working exceptionally hard to get the Triumph fixed for the second session, but after the extensive damage caused in the crash they were unable to get out on the track for more than a couple of laps for qualifying two, forcing the young Australian the qualify in 17^th place on the grid.

 

A flying start saw O’Halloran in 12^th position after the opening lap and he was locked in a battled for the 18 laps with Dan Kneen and Lee Johnston. Johnston and O’Halloran began to bridge a small gap but swapped positions for the last eight laps of the race with the Irishman, the pain took advantage in the closing stages and Jason eventually crossed the line in 10^th position gaining some solid points in his Championship campaign.

 

O’Halloran commented “It’s been a really tough weekend and considering the crash that I had yesterday I’m just pleased to come away with no broken bones and some Championship points in the bag. The new one bike rule made things a little more difficult as it didn’t give the team much time to try and fix the one that I managed to destroy! I’m very sore and was certainly feeling worse for wear this morning when I got up but I knew I had to just get out there and do what I could. I got a great start which helped and I just had to roll with it, the injuries from the crash made the closing stages of the race hard work as I was just having to move with the bike and couldn’t really change the direction as fast as I would have liked. I would like to thank all the Oxford TAG Triumph team for working so hard and getting me back out on the grid and the Championship points I secured could make all the difference at the end of the season.”

It was mixed fortunes for the MAP Centurion Triumph team at round two of the Metzeler National Superstock 600 Championship at Thruxton circuit. Jimmy Hill was wiped out of 2^nd position on lap eight of the 14 lap race and his team-mate Josh Caygill gained his best ever result in the Championship of eighth place.

 

Jimmy Hill had been working hard over the weekend and was consistently in the top four throughout the weekend and was eager to gain another podium position to follow on from his win at Brands Hatch a couple of weeks ago. The youngster ended up qualifying the MAP Centurion Triumph in second place on the grid, his first front row start of the season.

 

Jimmy got a fantastic start and was soon leading the pack but Josh Day made an impressive pass and further went onto win the race by 11 seconds. Jimmy was locked in a fraught battle for second place and the bunch were swapping paintwork on most laps. Jimmy finally made a break on lap eight but had his rear wheel clipped by Nikki Coates into the first corner causing Jimmy to have a massive high-side.

 

A battered Hill said “I’m really gutted to have lost out as it’s really difficult to make up points in this Championship. The MAP Centurion Triumph team worked really hard all weekend and I hit a patch of oil this morning in warm up and went down and did some damage to the bike, Brad, my crew chief worked really hard to make sure I got out on track for the race. I got a great start and Josh Day came round the outside of me and just was gone in the distance, I got my head down and finally got into second place after a real battle and I was eager to make a break when I was clipped from behind and it threw me over the bars and that was my race done, gutted!”

 

On the other hand Josh Caygill struggled during qualifying and ended up in 16^th position on the grid only one second off his team-mate Jimmy. A brilliant start saw Josh lying in 13^th place after the opening lap and as the freight train unveiled Josh was in amongst it, with only two seconds separating second to 12^th place it was anyone’s race. Josh worked extremely hard to make his way through the pack and after a few incidents and some confident passing manoeuvres Josh secured a stunning eighth position.

 

A delighted Caygill said “It’s been a long old weekend and I got injured here last year so I just wanted to make sure I didn’t get mixed up in it all at the start and wanted to have a good battle and get a good result for the MAP Centurion Triumph team. I’m made up with the result but gutted for Jimmy getting taken out as it would have been a great result for the team. It was carnage out there and I just wanted to try and stay out of the melee and just kept pushing hard. The laps went pretty quickly and I was moving positions on every lap, I didn’t even know what position I was in so was over the moon when I was told at the end!”

It was a very tough weekend for the MAP Centurion Triumph team at round two of the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship at Thruxton Circuit. Dan Cooper failed to make the race after an electrical problem occurred and AJ Venter fought through a difficult weekend to gain 14^th position in the 18-lap race.

 

The pair worked hard throughout the weekend to find a suitable set up at the ultra fast and super bumpy Thruxton circuit. Working around problems and altering set up the two Supersport riders still encountered issues. Dan Cooper was unfortunate in the second qualifying and suffered a clutch problem which forced him to miss the entire session and putting him in a low 18^th place on the grid. Whilst AJ Venter was finding it hard to get to grips with the track and had some problems with the suspension and shock set up, this eventually put him in 16^th place on the grid.

 

Cooper managed to make the sighting lap but then suffered with a starter motor failure on the grid before the start of the warm up lap, which forced him out of the race before it even started. AJ got a reasonable start but only managed to gain one position at the end of the opening lap and despite his efforts to make progress through the field could only manage to get 14^th at the end of the race.

 

Cooper commented “I’m totally gutted about this weekend it just didn’t seem to want to work in my favour. It seems to be a track that I’ve never gelled with and for some reason that bad luck continued this weekend. I went out of pit lane fine for the sighting lap and then when it came to the warm up lap it wouldn’t go, just gutted. I hope things will be back to normal at Oulton and that I can get some good points there.”

 

AJ said “It’s not been a great weekend for me, I could not get the suspension right in any session and I just felt like I was riding on a pogo stick. We tried so much to try and work round it and make it better but nothing seemed to click and gel and I just can’t wait to get away from here and to Oulton in a few weeks. It’s definitely been a tough one for the team and we all just need to put this one behind us and move forwards with the rest of the season.”

Jimmy Hill took a stunning debut win for the MAP Centurion Triumph team in the Metzeler National Superstock 600 race at Brands Hatch today, Easter Monday and his team mate Josh Caygill worked hard to take 14^th position.

 

In the frantic 22-lap race Hill was determined from the start to ensure that he was mixing in with it at the front. Having qualified in fifth place on the grid after the two groups were merged, Hill had been setting good, strong and consistent lap times throughout the weekend and was always looking good for a final podium position.

 

Living only twenty minutes away from Brands Hatch, Jimmy was eager to follow in his big brothers footsteps, who took the race win in the opening British Superbike race earlier in the day.

 

Hill was third after the opening lap in the National Superstock race but soon moved through to second position behind Matt Bilton. It became a four man battle at the front and all were keen to take the race win, none more so than Hill. Hill created his own new lines and found some incredible passing positions; he swapped places with Bilton around six times in the last two laps eventually making the move to the front stick to take the win on the final lap by 0.065.

 

Josh Caygill came out worse off with the structure of the qualifying positions and ended up 19^th on the grid after running in the top 12 all weekend. A bad start saw the youngster boxed into the first corner and pushed back to 21^st after the first lap, leaving him with a lot of work to do. Slowly working his way through the pack Caygill ended the 22-lap fraught race in 14^th position despite his lap times being only 0.2 off team-mate Jimmy.

 

A delighted Jimmy Hill commented “I’m over the moon with the race result and so pleased I was able to pull that out the bag for the MAP Centurion Triumph team who have been working so hard since Xmas to put all this together for us. The race was a tough one and I knew that I had to get a good start to enable me to stay with the front runners. I’m really happy with everything but it was a real dog fight, I’d like to thank my personal sponsors Vent-Axia, SJM Air Conditioning, Stuart, Feridax, my family and the entire MAP Centurion Team for making it all happen. I would like to congratulate my brother Tommy also! I hope the rest of the season will pan out like this!”

 

Josh Caygill was promoted to 14^th position after the third place man was disqualified. Josh said “I’m fairly pleased with the result I got today, it’s pretty mental out there and when you are in amongst it, it’s hard to find some decent places to pass. I got a terrible start and was 21^st after the opening lap and even though I was doing some really good lap times it was chaotic out there, I made a few passes for places but we were all bashing fairings. I’m happy with the points and really pleased for Jimmy! I would like to thank VW Commercial Vehicles and all the MAP Centurion Triumph team for all their hard work so far!”

Dan Cooper and AJ Venter had a solid start to their Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport campaign at Brands Hatch. The race was red flagged and cut short early, Cooper had just latched onto the back of the front runners but due to the early stoppage he gained sixth place and Venter in 10^th.

 

After a torrid weekend with weather conditions at Brands Hatch the two MAP Centurion Triumph riders struggled for good dry track time. Both riders are still working on finding a good set up on the Triumph’s which suit their particular riding style and with the appalling weather on Friday and Saturday, time out on the track was limited. Cooper was 12^th in first qualifying and Venter 16^th, with only Venter improving by one position during second qualifying after the heavens opened once again.

 

Venter got a blinding start and was 10^th after the first lap with Cooper struggling to get off the line and was 11^th after lap one. Cooper was soon making massive progress and working his way through the field and putting in some very positive lap times and was soon catching the leaders, making a pass on Paul Young on lap 19 for 6^th before the race was cut short on lap 21.

 

Venter was sitting in a strong position after his fantastic start and was eager to push harder for a final top ten placing. A near out the seat moment at Druids forced him to loose a few places but he soon got his head down and was making good progress when the race was stopped.

 

Dan Cooper commented “I got a really bad start and knowing there are very few passing places around here I was going to have my work cut out. I pushed hard all the way and was catching the leaders when they red flagged the race. We have however made massive progress with the Triumph’s this weekend and what direction we need to go in. I’m feeling really happy and know this is going to be a good season. The team are great and really pleased with how things have come together, I’d like to thank all my sponsors and also the MAP Centurion Triumph team and my mechanics for all the hard work.”

 

AJ was content with his result saying “I got a great start but had a big moment early on in the race which lost me a few places and left me with some work to do. I know what we need to do and we learnt more this weekend than we did in the test sessions and even in morning warm up we were still making small changes which made the bike feel much better. It’s all a learning process but it’s definitely all good! I’d like to thank MAP group and my team for all their help and can’t wait for Thruxton.”

After winning the Supertest ‘King of the Supersport’ crown for four successive years the Daytona’s status has been further enhanced with a strong performance two years running in the 2008 British Supersport Championship.

 

With an impressive 2010 product portfolio in place, including significant updates to existing best-selling bikes and a striking new model, Triumph is set to continue to enhance its status in the marketplace.
